SKUAST-J scientist bags ICAR National Fellow Award

JAMMU, July 21: Dr Anish Yadav has become the first scientist from Jammu and Kashmir to get Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) National Fellow Award.
Dr Yadav, an Associate Professor at Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry at RS Pura under Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), received the recognition for his research on ‘Eradication of myiasis caused by warble fly in goats of Jammu and Kashmir’.
The award consists of a research grant of Rs 2.5 crore to help development of diagnostic kit aimed at early diagnosis of the disease and then attempting eradication campaign using cost effective treatment. The award is given by ICAR-New Delhi, Government of India, in the field of agriculture and allied sciences and is aimed at developing strong centers of research and education around outstanding scientists of proven competence and leadership.
Warble fly infestation is a myiasis caused by the larvae of an Oesteridae fly. The farmers of the State call it as “Midu” disease and have a myth that it is caused either by hitting animal with stick of plant Grewia asiatica or by damage of skin with thorns of bushy plants located in hilly areas, rather than by a fly.
Dr MMS Zama, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry revealed that such research work aimed at disease control is one of the remedy for enhancing the livestock productivity in the state of J&K.
Dr Yadav has 16 years of experience of teaching and research. He is recipient of prestigious Dr JP Dubey Young Scientist Award, Research and stay grant at USC, Spain and many research presentation awards in National and International conferences/seminars.
Besides authoring book, book chapters and Manuals, Dr Anish has 105 research publications to his credit in the journals of National/International repute.
