SKUAST-J sensitizes farmers about climate change and agriculture

JAMMU, Oct 18: Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu, under the aegis of Vice-Chancellor Dr B N Tripathi, organized one day programme at Main Campus, Chatha, under SC-SP component.
The main objective of this programme was to aware about the climate changes and its impact on various crops and to improve the socio-economic status of the economically weaker section specially SC & ST.
The programme was preceded by Dr Mahender Singh, Chief Scientist and Incharge AICRPAM, who discussed about weather based farm operation in various crops and also briefed to develop human resources through specifically providing adequate agricultural education about the climate and weather to the farmers.
Prof R K Samnotra, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion. He educated the farming community about the purchase of chemicals and seed inputs through reliable sources with receipt of the same. He also distributed high yielding wheat seed to more than 200 farmers for raising their production and income also.
Dr Amrish Vaid, Prof & Head, Plant Pathology, provided the detailed information on disease management practices in rabi crops as well as focused on cultivation of climate and disease resistant varieties. Dr Bodu Ram Bazaya, Chief Scientist Weed Management explained the farmers about effective weed management in different rabi crops.
Dr A P Singh, Prof Div of Agronomy & I/C, ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar, gave detailed information about package and practices of different rabi crops and their water management techniques. Dr Anjani Kumar Singh, Sr Scientist, Mega Seed explained the farmers regarding Improved seed multiplication techniques of various crops at farmer field.
Dr Veena Sharma, Technical Officer, highlighted soil and water conservation practices to achieve optimal nutrient use efficiency crop yields, crop quality and economic returns. Dr Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer, AMFU, Rajouri, highlighted utility of Meghdoot, Mausam and Damini mobile apps.
Dr Charu Sharma, YP-II, AICRPAM-NICRA Project, emphasized farming community to adopt improved/modern technologies like agroadvisories services and mechanized farming system to improve their livelihood. Ram Dhan (Ex-FCLA), Suresh Kumar, FCLA, Dharamvir, AO, Agrometeorology Section also participated in the programme. Dr Monika Banotra, SRF, FASAL Project presented the vote of thanks.
