UDHAMPUR, Jan 6: Prof B N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, visited Narsingh Seva Kendra at village Khoon of Udhampur district and stressed upon the promotion of organic farming in areas which are by default employing natural practices.
While interacting with the farmers, Prof Tripathi highlighted the importance of maintaining soil health and productivity through natural means. He also underlined the economic viability of Gaushala in promoting integrated and natural systems of farming.
Narsingh Seva Kendra is a centre for naturalpathy and a Ved Pathshala which has been developed as a resourceful training centre for farmers. The centre is established in an area of 6 hectares. SKUAST-Jammu has recently signed an MoU with Narsingh Seva Kendra to standardise organic farming practices.
During his visit, Vice Chancellor Prof Tripathi issued directions to further develop the site by scientific interventions. Prof Tripathi was accompanied by Dr Hema Tripathi, First Lady of SKUAST-Jammu & National Coordinator ICAR NAHEP New Delhi and Dr Amrish Vaid, Director Extension SKUAST-Jammu.
Dr Hema Tripathi highlighted the scope of organic farming in terms of consumer demand at national level. She suggested the university scientists to formulate projects for building the site into a model farm for demonstrations on organic and natural farming.
Dr Amrish Vaid informed that all KVKs of SKUAST-Jammu have already implemented the projects on natural farming in their respective districts. He highlighted the importance of value addition and marketing of natural products, including cow milk and milk products.
Raman Soori, Vice President Narsingh Seva Kendra, presented the objectives of the project and future plan. During the interaction with Sarpanch and local farmers, the issue of value addition and processing of milk and byproducts of Gaushala was raised to sustain regular incomes.
Other who attended the programme, included Chain Singh, General Secretary NSK and Scientists from SKUAST-Jammu Dr Vinod Gupta, Dr Sanjay Koushal and Dr Mandeep Singh.
