JAMMU, Sept 30: The All India Coordinated Research Project (Honeybee and Pollinators) Centre of SKUAST of Jammu has been conferred the Best Reporting Centre Award by ICAR-New Delhi for the year 2023-24.
The award was presented to SKUAST Jammu centre by Dr T R Sharma, DDG (Crop Sciences) in the presence of Dr Poonam Jasrotia, ADG (Plant Protection and Biosafety) and Project Coordinator, Dr Sachin Suroshe in recognition of the research work conducted and technologies presented during the Annual Group Meeting of the ICAR-AICRP, held from September 27-29, 2024, at the CSKHPKV, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.
The Centre was chosen among 25 centers of ICAR – All India Coordinated Honeybee and Pollinators Project. The AICRP Centre was sanctioned as voluntary center by ICAR in 2008-9 and was subsequently upgraded as permanent centre in 2015-16. Since then, the centre has contributed a lot in the field of beekeeping.
The centre has developed and demonstrated various technologies on various aspects of scientific beekeeping. The centre has established advanced research facilities in the form of Honey testing; Disease Diagnostic laboratory; honey and beeswax processing plant amounting more than 2.00 crore under National Bee Board Project, Govt of India for facilitating testing/processing of honey and diagnosis of bee diseases.
The centre is conducting regular training on scientific beekeeping for beekeepers, farmers, line department officials and NGOs etc. The experiential learning unit (beekeeping) is practically training students on value addition and diversification of bee products for promoting entrepreneurship.
Vice Chancellor Dr B K Tripathi congratulated Dr R K Gupta Head Entomology, Dr Devinder Sharma, PI AICRP Honeybee and Pollinators and his team for bringing laurels to the University.
