SKUAST- K VC for participatory seed production

SRINAGAR, May 3: Vice-Chancellor, Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Dr. Tej Partap today stressed the importance of the introduction of participatory plant breeding, participatory seed production by strengthening local seed system.
Dr. Partap made these observations while chairing the 31st Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee Meeting of the university today.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Afifa S. Kamili, Director Extension Education,  Dr. Shafiq Ahmad Wani Director Research, Dr. Badrul Hassan, DRI-cum-Dean PG Studies, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Director Agriculture-Kashmir and Dr. G. A Parray Associate Director Research (Member Secretary).
Director Agriculture, Kashmir said that his department has produced 30,000 quintals of certified seed of paddy for distribution among the farmers. He said stress has been laid on seed replacement of various crops particularly maize and pulses.
Director Research, SKUAST-K impressed the need for conserving the local biodiversity and to prepare a comprehensive plan including market chain for Kashmiri Chilli for its conservation and utilization to benefit the farming community.
