SKUAST scientists brief farmers in Samba

SAMBA, Sept 6: Scientists of SKUAST Jammu (KVK Samba) working under the guidance of Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J, Dr. K.S. Risam organized one day farmer training programme on “Nitrogen scheduling through use of Leaf Colour Chart (LCC)” at Treli, Samba.
Dr. Vinod Gupta, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Samba, gave appraisal of various farmers friendly schemes. He emphasized upon the farming community to have direct linkage with KVK.
Dr. Vivak M. Arya, soil scientist & resource person for the training programme discussed about the importance of leaf colour chart in paddy. He briefed on adjustment of fertilizer doses with leaf colour chart for better yield & good soil quality and emphasized that leaf colour chart can reduce the excess use of urea in paddy which is causing soil and water pollution and is a threat to ecology and environment.
Dr. Arya stressed upon the farming community not to use blanket dose of fertilizers as excessive nitrogenous fertilizers are responsible for green house gas emission. Dr. Arya demonstrated the use of LCC in the paddy field to the farmers.
Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Sr, Scientist, Agroforestry advocated the plantation & conservation of agroforestry modules for sinking more carbon from the atmosphere. The proceeding of the training programme was conducted by Ajay Thakur, JRF.
