COLOMBO, Nov 26: The Sri Lankan police, Special Task Force (STF) and army jointly carried out a pre-dawn raid in the suburbs of Colombo on Sunday and arrested over 40 people, the police said.
The raid was carried out in Sinhapura, Wellampitiya, the area known for gang activities, and those arrested were in possession of drugs and weapons, police media spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said.
A total of 138 police and STF personnel and 200 army personnel were involved in the raid, in which 61 houses and 196 people were searched, according to Thalduwa.
The raid was conducted according to the directives of senior police officials in Western Province, the spokesman said. (UNI)
