Srinagar, May 7: The militant who was killed last night by police during an attack on them at National Highway in Kulgam was wanted by National Investigating Agency (NIA) for his role in 2015 Fidayeen attack on a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy at Udhampur.
Fayaz Ahmad Ishwar alias Setha of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in retaliatory fire by police after a group of militants attacked them last night.
Police said that the killed militant was active from last two years and was involved in many subversive activities. He remained active in his local area and motivated youth to join militant ranks. He used to provide logistic support for safe passage of militants and their associates.
He was wanted (in the case FIR No 08/2015 investigated by NIA) for his role in a Fidayeen attack on a BSF Convoy on August 2015 at Narsu, Udhampur. In this attack, two BSF personnel were killed and 11 others were injured.
One pistol, one magazine, 8 pistol rounds and a grenade were recovered. Police has registered a case FIR number 100/2017 under Section 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act and investigation has been taken up.
A group of militants today appeared during the funeral of the militant at his ancestral grave yard and fired several rounds in air. The militant firing caused panic in the village.
Last night, Police Post Mirbazar received an information regarding a vehicular accident near Alstop on National Highway. Immediately a police team of Police Post Mirbazar headed by In-charge PP SI Safdar Hussain rushed to the spot for the evacuation of injured person in the accident and to restore the traffic. Taking the advantage of traffic jam militants fired upon the police party, resulting in injuries to two policemen and four civilians.
Among the injured, policeman Mahmood Ahmad, three civilians Suhail Nabi Bhat resident of Badipora Tral, Niyaz Ahmad Mir resident of Malpora Kulgam and Hem Raj Sharma resident of Samba succumbed to their injuries. SPO Raqeeb Ahmad (No 514/SPO) son of Farooq Ahmad and Ghulam Hassan Dar of Krewan Malpora were shifted to Srinagar in injured condition.
