VIJAYPUR, May 22: For the second day today, former Minister and senior State vice president, National Conference (NC), Surjeet Singh Slathia visited the shelling affected villages along the International Border (IB) in Vijaypur Assembly Constituency to ascertain the situation there.
He expressed solidarity with the sufferers and condoled the death of civilians and jawans due to Pakistani firing and shelling.
“The forward areas are presenting grim picture of gloom and destruction with people running for safety”, Slathia said, adding that the death of civilians and jawans has caused anguish among the people.
Slathia expressed grave concern over the perpetual miseries of border dwellers in the wake of intermittent shelling from across the border and sought emergent measures to instil sense of security among them by arranging safe shelters.
The former Minister interacted with the affected families of Barota, Pekhri, Kesso, Kamore, Kamore Camp, Babral, Nanga Dadyal, Chak Pambo, Plota, Jerda and Dug villages of Ramgarh Sector, which witnessed chaotic situation due to shelling from across during past several days. He expressed solidarity with those whose houses were damaged and livestock killed.
Sharing the miseries of the border dwellers who are braving the brunt of Pakistan shelling, Slathia expressed dismay over delay in raising shelter sheds and devising exigency plans to meet such eventualities. He said the border dwellers are forced to run helter skelter for safety with the Government just looking to the other side, when they need shelter, medicare and other facilities the most.
He criticized the PDP-BJP Government for failing to shoulder its responsibilities towards border dwellers and urged the local administration to carry out survey of the damages caused due to shelling and provide interim relief in terms of cash assistance and free rations to the sufferers. He said the affected people should be compensated for the losses after inventory of the damages is prepared.
Slathia urged the Government to take all possible measures to save the people from the perpetual misery and arrange for their safe accommodation with all necessary facilities. “The sufferers cannot be left in lurch”, he said.
