Slathia takes stock of people’s problems

SAMBA, Aug 16: Describing development of far-off and border areas of the State as priority of the Coalition Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjit Singh Slathia said that various schemes have been launched to enhance basic facilities like power and water supply, education, healthcare and R&B.
The Minister was addressing a series of public meetings convened in far off areas of Rara, Swankha and Nandpur of Vijaypur constituency.
The Minister was accompanied by District Development Commissioner Samba Mubarak Singh, Chief Engineer PDD Shenaz Goni, SE PDD Gurcharan Singh, senior officers of various departments.
Addressing a public gathering at Rara, the Minister said that the present Coalition Government has embarked on a path of development for the entire State and it has launched several welfare schemes for the betterment of the people and asked the people.
The demands which were brought to the notice of the Minister included construction of nallah at Rama Camp, improvement in power and water supply, upgradation of Shamshan Ghat, installation of electric poles in the area, upgradation of lanes and drains, installation of hand pumps at various locations, benefit of pension, widow and IAY to genuine beneficiaries, etc.
Responding to their demands, the Minister assured that 2nd installment of IAY would be provided within few days to the beneficiaries. He directed the R&B officers to take up the construction work of culvert in the area at the earliest for the convenience of the people.
The Minister instructed the concerned officers for early redressal of the genuine demands and problems of the people highlighted during the public meetings.
At Swankha, the Minister inaugurated newly completed blacktopping work completed at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh under BAPD Model village scheme. He also inaugurated link road to Chak Nazaar at Nandpur completed at a cost of Rs. 22 lakh.
The Minister also dedicated augmented receiving station Nandpur to the people which will benefit the people of Nandpur, Rardi, Chowni, Chimna Chak, Sar, Garh, Bahuderpur, Pindi, Shama Chak, Kathar, Kotla, Chiber Chak and other adjoining areas. The Receiving Station has been completed with a cost of Rs  1.5 crore by PDD.
Referring to several steps being taken up for enhancing power supply in the state, the Minister said “we are exploring all possibilities to optimely utilize the power production potential of the state so that people would be provided adequate electricity.” He said that the State has vast potential of producing electricity which can also help further improve economy of the State.
