NEW DELHI: Members from Opposition parties, including Congress and AAP, raised slogans and showed placards in the Lok Sabha voicing various issues, including ”political vendetta” and atrocities on poor”, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House till 1200 hrs.
The Opposition Members had given notices for Adjournment to raise various issues which were disallowed by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Unhappy over the Chair’s refusal, Opposition Members trooped into the Well showing placards and chanting slogans.
While Congress waved placards over ”political vendetta” and “insult of people of Kerala (by not inviting state CM for a Prime Minister’s programme), AAP Members showed placards to protest against ”atrocities on poor” (demolition of Railway slums in New Delhi).
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had alleged he had been asked to skip a function to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil a statue of former chief minister R Sankar in the state tomorrow.
Leftists, AITC, RJD, NCP and JD(U) Members also supported the protests from their seats. The pandemonium continued for almost 20 minutes, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 1200 hrs.
The Question Hour business was formalised amid din. In the Monsoon Session, raising of placards and sloganeering in the Well led to suspension of 25 Congress Members for five days and an almost total washout of the session in July-August earlier this year. (AGENCIES)
