In global world of information & technology (ICT) – text, images, pictures and high definition multimedia information’s are adding up in the internet after every second. Although, plenty of search engines are available in the web like Goggle, Yahoo or Bing, for accessing needful information when required. But, sometimes when need arises for accessing online contents, they pose lit bit problem for the online users. Apart from that, there are some other options available which can be proved very helpful for the users to access information on the internet smartly.
Meta Search:- A Meta search engine is a search tool that uses other search engines ‘data to produce their own results from the internet. Meta search engines take input from a user and simultaneously send out queries to third party search engines for results. Sufficient data is gathered, formatted by their ranks and presented to the users. Information stored on the www is constantly expanding making it increasingly impossible for a single search engine to index the entire web for resources. Meta search engine is a solution to overcome this limitation. Dogpile.com, Meta-crawler, HotBot&Zapmeta.com are the most useful meta search engines available on the net.
Natural Language Search:-A Natural language search engine would in theory find targeted answers to users questions ( as opposed to keyboard search). For example, when confronted with a question of the form ‘which Indian State has the highest income tax?’, conventional search engines ignore the question and instead search on the keywords ‘state’, ‘income’ and tax. NLS on the other hand, attempts to use natural language processing to understand the nature of the question and then to search & return a subset of the web that contains the answer to the question. If it works, results would have a higher relevance than results from a keyword search engine. If the user asks question in English language, then Ask.com would be a better choice in this context.
Social Searching :- Social search or a social search engine is a type of web search that takes into account the social graph of the person initiating the search query.Search results produced by social search engine give more visibility to content created or “touched” by users in the social graph. Social search takes many forms, ranging from simple shared bookmarks or tagging of content with descriptive labels to more sophisticated approaches that combine human intelligence with computer algorithms. The search experience takes into account varying sources of meta data, such as collaborative discovery of web pages, tags, social ranking, news, images, videos, knowledge sharing and other web pages. In the world of internet, the most famous social search engines are Blogs, Facebook(graph search), Twitter&Icerocket.com.
Image & Video Search :- A Video search engine is web-based search engine which crawls the web for video content. Some video search engines parse externally hosted content while others allow content to be uploaded and hosted on their own servers. Some engines also allow users to search by video format type and by length of the clip. Search results are usually accompanied by a thumbnail view of the video. Video search engines are computer programs designed to find videos stored on digital devices, either through internet servers or in storage units from the same computer. Other than Bing & Google, for searching & downloading high definition videos, the better options would be like – Tineye.com, Blinkx.com, Youtube.com.
