SRINAGAR, Mar 5: Despite contempt notice issued by the Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is allowing illegal construction of shops in the Bohri Kadal area of downtown Srinagar leading to the blockade of the approach road to the locality.
Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar issued contempt notice to the non-applicants including Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Dr Ghulam Nabi Qasba. But the issuance of contempt notice too has been played with by the officials as the construction is going on much to the dismay of the locals.
Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar, Abdul Majid Dar issued an order on February 2, 2013 asking the non-applicants to extend the order issued on September 7, 2012. The Municipal Magistrate had ordered the non-applicants not to raise any construction on the common passage or block it. To the utter surprise of the applicants the order was never implemented.
Taking a strong note of the non-implementation of the earlier order, the Municipal Magistrate asked Commissioner, SMC Srinagar, Executive Engineer, Right River Works, SMC Srinagar and Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub Division Nowpora, SMC Srinagar to implement the order in letter and spirit. But till date no visible change has been noticed.
The Municipal Magistrate also issued contempt notice to the non-applicants but of no use as it made no difference to them. The case that is pending since March 13, 2012 is listed for March 26, as the next date of hearing.
