SMC officials face public wrath in old city

SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials had to face public wrath from the residents of old city for their failure to address the problems, including foul smell emanating from one of the de-watering stations there.
The SMC officials were accompanying some media persons during a tour to take their account of the dewatering work done by the Corporation after this week’s snowfall chocked major city road and lanes due to water-logging.
Residents of Darish Kadal, Safa Kadal in old city area said that the sewage from Iqbal Park, Hari Singh High Street, Karan Nagar and parts of Batamallo are discharged into the Sunder Kul here, which had made their life miserable.
Fearing trouble, the SMC officials immediately wound up the tour which was meant for the whole city.
Later, SMC Commissioner, Dr Ghulam Nabi Qasba held a press conference at his office and admitted people had to face immense problems due to water-logging.
