SMC readies plan to deal with waterlogging

Srinagar, Mar 27: Mayor Srinagar Junaid Azeem Mattu today held an emergency meeting in central office at Karan Nagar in wake of continuous rains.
As per a hand-out issued here, the Mayor discussed various imperative steps to be taken to tackle with waterlogging issues. He directed the concerned to identify the trouble spots due to the continuous rainfall and immediately dewater those spots there off.
Areas like Babdem, Lal Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Khumaani Chowk, Solina, Wazirbagh, Chanpora Rose lane, Masjid Anjum Qamarwari and hospitals need immediate attention.
Directions have also been passed to clear the accumulated garbage in view of the present threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor also said that in view of weather forecast a tight vigil needs to be kept on sensitive areas with subsequent measures to be adopted and further stressed for procuring of machines, boats, including dewatering pumps and other infrastructure required in case of any eventuality.
Directions were also passed on to conduct sterilisation drives in all community centres that shall be handed over to district administration in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
Meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, Joint Commissioner Adm, Joint Commissioner Works, S.E Drainage, Executive engineers CDC, MCD and S&D Health Officer SMC, Secretary SMC, Chief Sanitation Officer and other officials.
