SRINAGAR, Nov 23: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has warned of strict action against the defacement by sticking bills, posters, unauthorized advertisements and graffiti on walls, buildings, flyovers, trees, bus bays, public monuments or structures.
It said that the defacement of walls facing roads and public places in Srinagar city is an offence and invites strict punishment.
The SMC said that the violators shall be liable for prosecution and a fine which may extend to Rupees five lakhs and in case of continuing offence/contravention, the offender shall be liable for a recurring fine for every day after the first conviction during which he has persisted in the failure of contravention.
“It is impressed upon the general public including companies, commercial establishments, educational institutions etc to refrain from such acts. Violation shall lead to action and be prosecuted under sections 384,385,386 & 387. Violators shall be taken under the aforesaid provisions of Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000,” SMC said.
