JAMMU, Mar 14: The smuggling of forest produce was foiled today by a team of Forest field staff of Jammu Forest Range.
According to the sources of Forest Department, during the intervening night of March 13-14, a team of forest field staff of Jammu Forest Range headed by Vijay Khousla, Range Officer Jammu under the direct supervision of Alok Kumar Maurya (DFO Jammu) laid a naka at Seri Panditan on specific information regarding illegal movement of forest produce.
“On suspicion, the naka party intercepted a Mahindra Pick Up vehicle bearing registration number JK02BW-1258 but instead of stopping, the driver accelerated the vehicle,” sources said, adding, the alert Forest field staff chased the vehicle and after a long chase the vehicle was intercepted at village Tanda at about 2.45 am.
However, sources said, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot. They said after conducting on spot physical verification, the vehicle was found loaded with approximately 40 quintals of Khairwood species, which was seized under Indian Forest Act.
Sources said that Forest Offence Report has been registered and confiscation proceeding against the vehicle also initiated.
