KATRA, Apr 5: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Hospital in Katra has successfully performed three more Cochlear Implant Surgeries on young children aged 4-6 years who had profound hearing loss.
The surgeries were sponsored by the Shrine Board, which has been supporting such surgeries for some time.
As per a statement, the beneficiaries were from poor backgrounds and their parents expressed their gratitude for the surgery, which has allowed their children to hear for the first time and speak.
It said the surgeries were carried out by a team led by Dr Rohan Gupta, Consultant ENT, with support from the anaesthesia team led by Dr Pankaj Gupta, HoD Anaesthesia, and guidance from Dr Sunil Kotwal, Consultant ENT.
The press statement further said that post-operative management was taken care of by the paediatric team led by Dr Anand Yelne.
The surgeries were immensely successful, with no complications, and the beneficiaries were discharged in good condition, it said.
Dr Gopal Sharma, Chief Administrative Officer of SMVDNSH, praised the Shrine Board’s philanthropic approach to supporting the hospital in providing useful services to society.
He also emphasized the importance of identifying hearing impairment in children at a young age and providing timely surgical intervention to prevent the development of a handicap.
