KATRA, Feb 28: In connection with the National Science Day, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in collaboration with local chapter of the National Academy of Sciences, India, Allahabad and CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, organized Science Outreach Programme at Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra.
The theme of the programme was “Scientific Issues for Development of the Nation”. The programme was aimed to sensitise the students of Katra and its surrounding areas, particularly the students of Middle School Sanjichhat, regarding the importance of National Science Day and make them aware of the possibilities for improving life through science.
Dr Piyush Singla, Additional CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, in his inaugural address, said that such programmes should be organized more often as these go a long way in developing scientific temper among the students and facilitate learning of science. Referring to the hands-on training programme organized for the students on this occasion, he said that such exposures develop curiosity among the students to know more and more about the realm of science.
Dr Arvind Karwani, Deputy CEO, SMVDSB, referred to the Career Counselling Programme organized by the Shrine Board for the students earlier this month and dwelt on various initiatives taken by the Shrine Board, particularly for the benefit of the students and the society at large.
Prof R N Gohil introduced the subject and invited all the students to enjoy science through hands-on training and easy to perform practicals.
Dr Sunil Wanchoo from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, conducted the proceedings of the programme and made the students aware about the life as well as the discoveries made by various renowned scientists.
Prof  Muneesh Gulati gave demonstration on the theme of “fun with creative science”.
The students interacted with Dr  Sumit Gandhi and other scientists from the IIIM, Jammu, who were present on the occasion.
A large number of students of Katra and its surrounding areas and the teachers were present on the occasion wherein an exhibition on the National Science Day was also organized by the IIIM, Jammu.
