SMVDCoN prepares scholarship scheme for meritorious students

JAMMU, Oct 2: The 18th meeting of the Governing Body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, which was held here took several important decisions for developing this institution as a centre of excellence in the field of nursing education in tune with the emerging patient care requirements.
With a view to inculcate competitive spirit among the students and provide financial assistance to the meritorious as well as underprivileged students to enable them to pursue professional course, the Governing Body prepared a Scholarship Scheme for the meritorious students of the SMVDCoN. In all, there will be 6 scholarships which will be awarded to the top three meritorious students each under the Merit and Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Schemes in each academic year on the basis of their inter-se merit for scoring the highest positions in the previous two semesters. These scholarships will be in the form of tuition fee waiver in both the categories on the scale of 100%, 75% and 50% for securing first, second and third positions respectively. A Scholarship Scheme Monitoring Committee will also be constituted for implementation and monitoring of the scheme.
The meeting chaired by Maj. Gen. S. K. Sharma (Retd), Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the College of Nursing, was attended by Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Jitendra Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO, Dr. V. Verma, Dean, SMVDU, Dr. (Brig) M. M. Harjai, Administrator and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College. Hem Kant Prasher, Chief Accounts Officer of the Shrine Board was also present.
The Governing Body also decided to constitute NSS Unit in the SMVDCoN to associate the students with various social service activities.
The meeting also finalised the arrangements for organising the second Lamp Lighting Ceremony and celebrating the Annual Day of the College of Nursing scheduled to be held next month.
