JAMMU, Feb 1: A poor labourer from Uttar Pradesh and his family had all smiles when he was operated successfully with Total Hip Replacement Surgery at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), Katra.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital treated the pilgrim free of cost. The pilgrim while on his way to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine fractured his left hip. He was immediately brought to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital and on further investigation, a team of doctors led by Dr Vikas Padha found that there is a need of an immediate Total Hip Replacement Surgery.
Dr Vikas Padha, Senior Consultant Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, who operated upon this patient said, “The patient was brought to the hospital with a fractured hip bone. We did our preliminary medical tests and found that considering the age of the patient and also configuration of his fracture, we recommended him to undergo Uncemented Total Hip Replacement Surgery.
He said that the surgery was done using latest techniques and equipment available at Narayana Hospital Katra that made patient stand and walk the very next day after surgery. Patient was discharged after full recovery within few days after surgery and was sent back to his native place, he added.
Dr (Col) R K Sahni, Facility Director Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, said, “The financial stature of the patient was low. However, the condition was very critical and so he was treated immediately without delay. We thank Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for supporting with financial aid to the pilgrim for the total cost of the surgery and hence the patient did not have to pay a single penny for the total hip replacement surgery.”
Dr Sahni further added that, “Over the period Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has evolved as the preferred hospital for joint replacement surgeries not just in Jammu and Kashmir, but also adjoining states. Joint Replacement Surgeries like Total Hip Replacement and Total Knee Replacement surgeries are being done routinely using latest techniques in our hospital.”
