JAMMU, Mar 11: The School of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, today celebrated two-day national congress on “International Mother Language Day” to promote Linguistic and cultural diversity of indigenous languages.
The inaugural session was graced with the presence of Prof D Mukopadhyay as the chief guest who inaugurated the session. Prof Lalit Magotra, Sahitya Akademi Awardee, was the guest of honor and he highlighted the significance of organising such events to provide platform to the native speakers.
During the event, a regional book titled “Dogri and Its Dialects”, written by Dr Kamal Deep Kaur, alumnus of SMVDU and Dr Amitabh, Head, School of Languages and Literature, was also released.
Dr. Arvinder Singh, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Dr Anurag Kumar, co-coordinator of the event, proposed the vote of thanks.
The inaugural session was followed by a session on self-composed short story session by the Academy. Prof Lalit Magotra presided over the session. Prominent creative writers of the session included Dr Radha Rani (Dogri), Dr Mushtaq Wani (Urdu), Prof M K Waqar (Gojari), Dr Baljit Raina (Punjabi), Nisar Rahi (Pahari), M K Santoshi (Hindi) and M K Pandita (Kashmiri). There were also sessions on short story and poetry recitation wherein participants from Cluster University, Jammu; GDC Udhampur; GCW, Udhampur; GDC Samba and in-house members participated.
These sessions were followed by colorful cultural evening wherein participants from J& K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu; Red Arts Punjab; GDC Udhampur; in-house students participated actively. More than 150 participants were present in the National Congress.
