SAMBA, Oct 21: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in association with the Department of Excise organized a heritage walk at Mansar Lake. The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Kamini Pathania, vice president of Board of Cultural Activities, SMVDU, Katra and event coordinator. Ved Prakash, CEO Surinsar and Mansar Development Authority was chief guest on this occasion who highlighted the role of administration in developing Mansar-Surinsar as religious, recreational and heritage tourism hub in the region.
Kirpal Singh heritage activist from Jammu was the keynote speaker who highlighted the different types of heritage ranging from architectural monuments, festivals, art and archaeological sites in Jammu and exhorted the students to be cultural ambassadors in preserving, promoting and safeguarding the heritage. A walk around the serene lake was undertaken by over 100 students and faculty members hailing from different states of India. The heritage walk was flagged off by CEO Mansar Surinsar Development Authority in the presence of Dr Rakesh Thussu, President Board of Cultural Activities.
During the lake walk, Kripal Singh informed the participants about the important archaeological site of Mansar haveli and exquisite wall paintings adorning the walls. The haveli was used as a resting place for the family members of Dogra kings while travelling to Bandralta, Mankote and Billawar.
