Snowfall brings cold to Valley

SRINAGAR, Oct 30: The fresh snowfall in the upper reaches has led to fall in temperature in Kashmir valley with Srinagar recording maximum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius that is 2.0 degrees below normal.
A Meteorological Department official said that snow is expected in the upper reaches of Kashmir during next 24 hours while plains of the Valley may witness rainfall. The official said that the temperature in Kashmir valley may drop by 4-5 degrees in next 24 hours.
Fresh snowfall was recorded at Gulmarg where large numbers of tourists were holidaying. Majority of them were excited to see the snowfall.
Around one inch of snow had accumulated in Kongdori, Gulmarg while three inches snow had accumulated at Affarwat.
Due to speedy winds and snowfall, the second phase of the Gulmarg Cable Car, Gandola, which goes upto Affarwat at an altitude of 13, 400 feet was closed today. However, the tourists who had made online bookings of the tickets were refunded their money by the Cable Car Department.
The MeT official said here that Srinagar recorded maximum temperature of 18.4 degree Celsius today with minimum recorded at 7.6 degrees. Jammu recorded a maximum of 30.0 degree Celsius and minimum of 14.0 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded maximum of 17.0 degree Celsius and minimum of degree Celsius, Pahalgam 14.0 degree Celsius and 5.4 degree Celsius, Kupwara 16.1 degree Celsius and 6.8 degree Celsius and Kokernag 17.6 degree Celsius and 3.3 degree Celsius.
