Snowfall in hills, rains lash Valley

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Fresh snowfall in higher reaches and rains lashed Kashmir, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a possibility of more precipitation over the next four days.

Intermittent snowfall was reported in the higher reaches of Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara and Ganderbal districts of Kashmir.

A few centimetres of snowfall was recorded in the morning in some parts of South Kashmir.
In Srinagar and adjoining areas, intermittent rainfall has been going on since last evening.
The downpour brought down the maximum temperature while the minimum temperature settled above freezing point in the city last night.
Srinagar city recorded a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius last night, which was 1.4 degrees above the normal for this time of the year
Most places in Kashmir recorded higher than usual minimum temperatures last night except for Gulmarg skiing resort in North Kashmir, where the mercury settled at minus 7.2 degrees Celsius.
A MeT official said that the weather will be partly to generally cloudy tomorrow.
“Generally cloudy towards evening with light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches towards late night on February 3. Generally cloudy weather will prevail between Feb 4 and 5 with possibility of light rain/snow at scattered to fairly widespread places till 5th forenoon and improvement thereafter. Few higher reaches may receive moderate snowfall,” he added.
The weather will remain partly cloudy with generally dry between 6 and 8th Feb. “Fresh spells of light rain/snow at isolated to scattered places will occur on 9th and 10th of Feb,” the MeT official said.
