Srinagar, Nov 13 : Weatherman today forecast light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches and some places in plains in Kashmir as temperatures dipped in the region.
“Weather is likely to turn cloudy as the day progresses today. From tonight (November 13) – November 15th, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy,” a Meteorological Department official said here.
“Light to moderate rain/ snow is expected over higher reaches at most places. Some places in the plains may receive 1-2 inches of snow on November 14,” he said.
From November 15-18, he said, the weather would be cloudy and from November 19-20, there is a possibility of widespread light to moderate rain/snow. “The forecast confidence is upto 75%,” he added.
He said snowfall and low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Sadna Top and Mughal Road on November 14 and 19-20th.
“Prior to embarking on a journey, people are advised to check the status of the road from traffic police,” he added.
In the meantime, temperatures across the region plummeted today.
Srinagar recorded a low of 0.8°C against 1.2°C the previous night. The temperature was 0.4°C below normal for the city during this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a low of minus 0.2°C against 2.5°C the previous night. The temperature was 1.5°C below normal for the town.
In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at minus 3.8°C against minus 3.7°C the previous night and it was 2.6°C below normal for the resort.
Kokernag recorded a low of 0.9°C against 2.4°C the previous night and it was 1.4°C below normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 3.6°C against minus 4.0°C the previous night. It was 3.3°C below normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at minus 1.4°C against minus 1.8°C the previous night. It was 1.9°C below normal for the place.
In Kargil area of Ladakh, the mercury settled at minus 3.4°C, Leh witnessed a low of minus 9.8°C and Drass, recorded minimum of minus 9.5°C.
