SO arrested by CBI for accepting bribe

JAMMU, Mar 6: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Asif Ahmad Bhat, Section Officer, Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section of Agriculture Production Department, Civil Secretariat for demanding bribe of Rs 5,00,000 from the complainant.
A complaint was received that the accused Asif Ahmad Bhat, Section Officer, Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section, Agriculture Production Department was demanding bribe of Rs 5,00,000 from the complainant for issuing/ processing the case of his father namely Gulzar Hussain for appointment as Stock Assistant in the department, pursuant to Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 of J&K Service Selection Board and CAT (Jammu) order dated 15.10.2024. The complaint was verified discreetly, which revealed that the allegations are genuine.

A trap was laid on 05.03.2025, in the presence of independent witnesses, during which, the accused was caught while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant through online UPI transaction at a Mobile Number provided by the accused, for processing the file pertaining to the appointment of his father and once favorable decision is taken in this regard, the accused will further ask for the remaining amount.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested by CBI and search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused at Old B C Road, Jammu.
The accused was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu today and the court remanded the accused to Judicial Custody for 14 days.
