AKHNOOR, July 15: After inauguration of Horticulture Week yesterday near here Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha listened grievances of social activist, K.P Singh who said that there is plenty of mango production in Jammu besides other fruits for which no arrangements have been are made to provide proper marketing while Jammu Mandi is flooded with mangoes and other fruits from outside.
Singh said that all along the highway from Akhnoor to Rajouri-Poonch one may find mangoes displayed by vendors right from the village Tanda and mostly army personnel buy these mangoes from such roadside vendors.
“In this way some local mango gets sold while the main crop rots under trees for lack of market support,” he informed requesting the L G to take note of Jammu area fruits and provide suitable marketing for that so that Jammu farmers may also double their income by the year 2022.
He also demanded that the Government should give more thrust on horticulture in Jammu and submitted a memorandum to the LG with demand of district status for Akhnoor.

“For many people from Akhnoor, Jammu DC office is more than 80 to 100 kms,” he claimed.
The memorandum had another demand of Akhnoor War Memorial.
On this occasion other people raised the issues of erratic power supply, long power cuts, drinking water issues and bad road conditions in villages and the LG gave a patient hearing to all these issues.
