LEH, Aug 12: Social activist Sajjad Kargili called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Sanjeev Khirwar; Secretary, PWD, Ladakh, Micheal D Souza; Director Finance, Dr Safdar Ali, and Director, Health and Medical Education, Dr Motup Dorjey were present in the meeting.
Kargili flagged several issues, including the sanctioning of a full-fledged Government Degree College at Sankoo, construction of the Turtuk-Hanu Road and the delimitation of the Bhimbet Constituency, etc. He suggested the implementation of an outreach programme on the lines of ‘Back to Village’ programme in J&K to address issues of people residing in the remote areas of Ladakh.
The LG directed Secretary PWD to expedite the construction work on the Turtuk-Hanu Road. The LG also assured that the status quo of the Sankoo College would be maintained and stated that the proposal for a permanent Government Girls College would be taken up with the Government of India. He also stated that outreach programmes on the lines of the Back to Village programme would soon be initiated in Ladakh to address issues of people residing in remote areas of the region.
