JAMMU, Dec 13: Social activist Kewal Krishan Wadhera, a senior citizen, and a member of the Red Cross, has said that single use plastics should not be used in everyday activities. He was interacting with students and staff of the Government Higher Secondary School, Bahu Fort today.
He stressed on inculcating eco- friendly habits by using cloth bags to bring home household items from the market. By using cloth bags, the use of plastic bags can be eliminated, he said.
Wadhera urged the students and staff to make five cloth bags each and give as gifts to people around them. This will mean they could take these bags to the market for everyday shopping.
He said that we should try to use natural products in such a way that they help the environment. Citing an example, Wadhera said that the rose petals can be added to tea and that makes for a healthy drink.
Similarly, after we have taken natural products like Aonla, their seeds can be thrown in nearby bushes. Some of them may germinate and may become trees after some years.
Wadhera said it was very important to take care of one’s surroundings and keep the same clean. “When all of us take care of cleanliness around us, our mohalla, city and the country will automatically become clean,” he added.
The important thing is to take care of small things and big things fall into place, he stressed.
He said that it was very important to adapt such habits as lead to sustainable ways in all walks of life.
On this occasion, he presented some cloth bags to students. He also urged them to develop good habits which are eco-friendly.
Principal of the school, Anuradha, thanked Wadhera for educating and motivating the students and staff.
