Social awakening

Sir,
An old-age is inevitable to come for every weak and strong. It is that distressing period of one’s life. Here, one feels and rapents for the acts done. Own progeny, for whom all good and bad is done, when starts ignoring, neglecting and marginalising the oldies in the family, they lose interest and feel acutely monotonous.
They prefer to move to Old Age Homes where such distressed souls seek shelter to pass their evenings of life. The materialistic way o f life, mine and thine, self interest having gone in ascendence, the family life has almost been disturbed.
The age long traditions of love and regards towards elders have disappeared. To expect the sons like Sarvankumara, who carried his old parents on shoulders to different places of pilgrimage, is a rare phenomenon now-a-days. Over all scenario, is also not much encouraging. Oldies are often seen travelling without seats, standing in queues in banks or struggling for food plate in social gatherings. Obviously, the Govts are also not much concerned about this section of the society. Morality strongly demands every effort to make charming, the evenings of life they still have to pass. Therefore, a need for social awakening, moral values and sense of humanity is of vital significance as a mark of real civilisation, otherwise our claims to be civilized one would be hollow and unrealistic.
