Social institutions should work hard for spreading human values: Karan Singh

NEW DELHI, Feb 22:
Indian Council for Cultural Relations president and former Union Minister Karan Singh today asked social institutions to keep chasing and implementing programmes aimed at enriching quality of human lives and propagation of human values in the society.
Speaking at a function organised here to mark the annual day of CKS Foundation, a trust for conservation of knowledge and service, Dr Singh said the social institutions must channelise their energies to spread human values and education, surmounting all odds.
Education must be imparted for the social upliftment of all segments of the society and role of social bodies was quite significant to accomplish this challenging task, the senior Congress leader said.
CKS Foundation chairman Chandra Kumar Sharma and vice-president Poonam Sharma gave a detailed account of activities undertaken by the foundation and unveiled their plans for social work in inhospitable tracks of Uttarakhand, which were battered by a deluge last year.
The foundation’s secretary Priyadarshni Sharma in her report said the foundation was working for afforestation and prevention of forest fires in and around village Udiyar in Bageshwar district, besides pursuing other social activities. (UNI)
