Social Justice Committee discusses issues of poor, disabled people

JAMMU, Dec 17: A meeting of the Social Justice Standing Committee of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was held under the chairmanship of Jeet Kumar Angral including Committee members Councilor Raj Rani, Councilor Tripta Devi, Councilor Kuldeep Singh, Councilor Rama Devi, Councilor Subhash Sharma, Councilor Ritu Chaudhary, Councilor Ajay Gupta and Councilor Sham Lal along with officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Prem Singh Assistant Commissioner (Rev.), Jaspal Singh Jt. commissioner (W), Arun Kumar Gupta Executive Engineer (T) and Revenue Officer Ashwini Sudan met with Avleen Kaur Bali, Collector JK Housing Board, Akansha Kalasotra CDPO Jammu Urban, Masuda Assistant Director FCS & CA, Rama Kumari TSO, Ashan Masood Deputy Director Social Welfare Department, RS Jamwal Assistant Director, Social Welfare Department, Tina Sharma, Assistant Project Officer, JUDA, Archana Bhatt, Project Officer, JUDA.
In the meeting Assistant Commissioner (Rev.) reviewed the actions taken over the issues raised in previous meeting. The Chairman discussed some issues related to the poor and disabled section of society. He said that it is the demand of the Councilors that 10 scooties be given to disabled person from each ward of the city, in which five scooties will be provided by the Municipal Corporation and five will be provided by Social Welfare Department. He also suggested that 10 wheelchair should also be provided in every ward, for disabled, aged or people suffering from some serious illness so that these people too can get inspiration to walk step by step with the world.
The Chairman said that the Committee has decided that whatever Departmental Tax has been imposed on the electricity bills of poor people in every ward of the city or any interest imposed on them in case of non-payment of bills should be relaxed.
He also said that the Government should approve the Linear Drain System (LDS) projects approved by the Mayor so that these projects can be started in every ward of the city.
He said that the Social Justice Committee is trying to act in accordance with the needs of the people of the city and people can come to his offices and meet him and also give their suggestions for the betterment of the city.
