MENDHAR, Sept 1: A soldier was killed due to bullet shot from long distance at a forward location in Mankote area of Mendhar in district Poonch this afternoon.
Reports said the incident took place at around 3.30 pm when Sepoy Mohan Lal of 37 Rashtriya Rifles was guarding a post in Dabraj area of Balnoi in Mankote sub sector near the LoC. Suddenly, a bullet from across the LoC hit the soldier at his neck. He fell down and started bleeding and the other soldiers rushed him to nearby Medical aid unit where he was declared as dead.
A senior official said that soldier is believed to have been killed by sniper shot from that side of the LoC from distance. He belonged to Pathankote area in Punjab. His body was sent to his home town late this evening.
