Srinagar, July 27: A soldier was injured during a predawn gunfight with militants in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.

A top police official said that the encounter broke out after police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in Baryihard Kathpora area of the district Kulgam today. As the joint team moved towards the target, the hiding militants opened fire which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight. A soldier was injured and was evacuated to hospital.
The official said that militants have escaped from the encounter site and the cordon has been extended to the nearby areas.
