Militants arrested in Bandipora, Shopian

JAMMU, Aug 18 : A militant was killed and a soldier was martyred in an operation that was launched in Kreeri area of Baramulla district yesterday after a militant attack on security forces in which a police man and two CRPF personnel were martyred.
The Army soldier who was injured yesterday succumbed to injuries while troops shot dead third militant during a daylong operation in the orchards of Kreeri area. With these two deaths, the total death toll in the attack and operation has gone upto 8 including a cop, two CRPF and two Army men and three militants.

The operation that was put on hold last night resumed this morning and one militant was killed in a day long operation today. He has been identified as Usman of Pakistan, and his body was retrieved from the encounter site. The search operation is still on in the area to rule out presence of any other militant.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that two soldiers who had sustained injuries yesterday at Kreeri gunfight, succumbed today at Srinagar. He said that the number of militants killed in the two-day long operation reached three. “Two AK’s and three pistols were recovered from the site of encounter,” he said.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that three militants were killed and they include top Lashkar commanders-Sajad alias Haider, who was active for last five years and a Pakistani militant Usman who was north Zone commander of Lashkar. The third slain militant was identified as Anayatullah Mir of Pattan area of North Kashmir.
He said that Haider and Usman were involved in the killing of BJP leader Waseem Bari and his brother and father in Bandipora in July this year He added that Haider was the main conspirator in killings and was also instrumental in recruiting youth into militant folds. He was involved in several attacks on Police, security forces, civilians and political workers.”
Earlier yesterday, militants targeted joint naka party of security forces at Kreeri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla in which two CRPF men and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were martyred.
And security forces in Bandipora district of North Kashmir today arrested a LeT militant.
Police said they along with security forces arrested a LeT militant and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
Police said that based on a specific input regarding presence of militants in Check Chandrageer area for subversive activities, a joint operation was conducted by Bandipora police, 13RR, and C Coy IRP 8th battalion where one militant Subzar Ahmad Rather alias Aatish Bhai of Awneera Shopian was apprehended.
“Incriminating material along with one 9 mm pistol, a pistol magazine and rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of the militant. He had joined LeT recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in and around Hajin locality. “In this connection FIR under relevant sections of law stands registered in police station Hajin and investigation has been initiated”, police added.
And a newly recruited militant of Al-Badr was arrested by a naka party in Sugan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
The militant of Al-Badr was arrested at a naka near Draggad Sugan village of Shopian. He was arrested by Army’s 44 RR, CRPF’s 178 Bn and Shopian police. He has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ahsan Sheikh of Maldera Shopian who was missing for last few days.
“A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is going on”, Police said.
