Solid Waste Management in villages

Sir,
This is in response to the article by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat wherein he suggested  utilizing MG-NREGA funds for Solid Waste Management in rural areas of state. This is a very healthy  suggestion and Government must seriously think over it. It has been observed that lot of work development has already been undertaken in village panchayats from last several years . In most of the villages there are concrete lanes, drains and protection bunds. Now, the need of the hour is to utilize NREGA funds for making villages look cleaner smarter and greener . In majority of our villages the water bodies are filled up with polythene and plastic material and if funds are provided by Government under NREGA to clean up these nallahs, streams and springs , the villages will give a new look within a few years. In addition to removing the polythene material from water-bodies ,  the authorities must try to convert the polythene into pellets in Gutta machines , and one such unit should be  installed for every 5 to 10 villages where polythene can be recycled. The funds available under Swachh Bharat Mission and NREGA should be clubbed together by Department of Rural Development.
Yours etc….
