SRINAGAR, Apr 15: In a shocking turn of events today, a man allegedly stabbed his mother to death in Rafiabad, North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, sending shock waves through the community.

According to details, the incident occurred during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday in Hadipora village of Rafiabad following an altercation between the two.
The deceased has been identified as Asha Begum (48), the wife of Farooq Ahmed Wani.
Officials stated that a knife was used in the attack, resulting in several injuries to the woman. “She was brought to SDH Sopore where doctors declared her dead.”

The accused, a professional driver, was swiftly apprehended by the police following the incident and has been identified as Amir Farooq Wani, also known as Gajini.
The father of the accused, Farooq Ahmad Wani, revealed his son’s drug addiction and history of conflict with his mother.
Recounting the events of the night, he stated, “After an altercation, I reprimanded my son and instructed my wife to turn off the light and go to sleep. As she went out into the corridor to do so, he approached her and stabbed her in the chest. I attempted to alert the neighbors, but no one responded. By the time we could take her to the hospital, she was already dead.”
He added, “I frequently chastised him, but he remained obstinate. He works as a truck driver and returns home sporadically. He is a drug addict and a heavy drinker.”
Another resident, Javaid Ahmad, described the incident as unfortunate, expressing concern that the accused could have harmed others.
He commended the prompt action of the police, stating, “The police arrived in time to arrest him; otherwise, he could have harmed someone else. He was intoxicated at the time of the crime. Authorities must take strict measures to combat the drug problem.”
Another local resident mentioned that the accused was consistently violent and even physically abused his father. “I have witnessed him on several occasions damaging the windows of his house.”
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha for investigation into the matter.
