MYSURU, Oct 6:
After arriving at the historic Mysuru city on Monday afternoon, AICC President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra headed by Rahul Gandhi in Mandya.
The Congress President joined the Karnataka-leg of the yatra near Mandya. The yatra resumed after a two-day break.
Commenting on Sonia Gandhi’s participation, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar felt proud of their supreme leader joining the yatra and said his party is coming to power in the state.
Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday , had visited Bheemana Kolli Temple at HD Kote near Mysuru and offered prayers on the occasion of Vijayadashami celebrations.
“Vijayadashami, there will be Vijaya in Karnataka. We are proud that Sonia Gandhi has come to walk on the streets of Karnataka. We are coming to power in the state, and BJP is on the way to closing its shop,” he said.
The yatra, which kickstarted on September 7 from Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari, will pass through Karnataka for 21 days covering 511 km in the state.
The yatra had entered Karnataka at Gundlupet on September 30 from Tamil Nadu’s Gudalur. It also had passed through Kerala.
The yatris are walking 25 kms every day and they will be do so for 21 days before entering Telangana.
The objective of the yara is to fight against the “divisive” politics of the ruling BJP governments at the Centre and states, and also to awaken the masses against the dangers of “economic inequalities”, “social polorisation” and “political centralisation.”
The yatris are sleeping in containers with ACs installed in some of them. (UNI)
