RAIPUR, Nov 7:
With just four days to go for the first phase elections in Chhattisgarh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi are set to hit the campaign trail in the Naxal hot bed of Bastar this afternoon.
While Ms Gandhi is scheduled to address one election rally at BJP stronghold Kondagaon, Mr Modi will hold three rallies at Jagdalpur, Kanker and Dongargarh, which are held by the saffron party legislators.
Security personnel have been put on high alert in all Naxal-affected districts, including the state capital following intelligence inputs about possible Naxals attack on the VVIPs and police to disrupt the poll process in the state.
Besides, three top BJP leaders — the party’s President Rajnath Singh, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley — will be canvassing for party candidates today by addressing as many as seven public meetings at Lormi, Beltara, Akaltara, Pandariya, Takhatpur, Masturi and Ambikapur where polling will be held in the second phase on November 19.
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to join the campaign trail in Bastar and Rajnandgaon tomorrow. He is scheduled to hold two election rallies at Kanker and Rajnandgaon, the constituency from where Chief Minister Raman Singh is seeking re-election for third term.
