They said the scheme has been under construction for the last 12 years, leaving almost 2,500 people without access to proper drinking water. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demands and called for immediate action to ensure the timely completion of the project. They said the prolonged delay has caused great inconvenience to the residents, and they are demanding swift action from the concerned authorities to resolve the issue at the earliest.
“The Government says to provide drinking water to the residents, but 12 years have passed and the water supply scheme is still incomplete,” Qazi Maqsood, a resident of Dangerpora, said.
The residents of the village accused the Jal Shakti Department of showing apathy towards the grave issue of the non-availability of drinking water. Despite repeatedly raising the issue with the concerned department, the residents claim that no concrete action has been taken to resolve the issue. “The lack of access to clean drinking water has made the residents vulnerable to water-borne diseases, with many people suffering from intestinal infections and other illnesses,” a local said.
The protestors appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to intervene in the matter and ensure that their basic right to access clean drinking water is not denied. “The prolonged delay in the construction of the water supply scheme has caused great inconvenience to the residents, and they are demanding swift action from the authorities to address the issue,” locals said.
