JAMMU, June 5: Indian Horizons, the prestigious magazine published by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has featured the Santoor maestro and music composer Abhay Rustum Sopori on its cover page in its 60th Volume, No. III.
The quarterly magazine is highly acclaimed for its articles on Indian art, culture and heritage. The magazine features an article on maestro Sopori titled “Haftrang: Linking Bavaria and Srinagar”. The magazine includes a wonderful Editorial introduction by Subhra Mazumdar, the editor of the Magazine and foreword by Satish C Mehta, IFS, DG ICCR.
The article talks about the contribution of the great Master musician Pandit SN Sopori, also hailed as the ‘father of music in the State’, the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori and the Sopori family and path breaking works of Abhay Sopori.
Abhay’s composition “Haftrang”, as a tribute to Kashmir, was conducted by the legendary music maestro, Zubin Mehta before his presentations of classic legends like Beethoven, Haydn and Tchaikovsky giving international recognition to the music of Kashmir and creating history in the world of music.
Abhay also had the honour to be the first ever composer and conductor to share the stage and conduct along with the legendary maestro Zubin Mehta.
Son of the soil, Abhay is a winner of numerous national and international awards. Hailed as one of the most prominent musicians of the present generation, Sopori is acclaimed as the youngest Santoor maestro, youngest classical musician to compose and conduct orchestras, folk and Sufi ensembles.
