Sopori’s 10th Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ from today

JAMMU, Feb 15: Like every year, the ten day long ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ by Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) will commence tomorrow.
The festival will be held at more than 20 different venues of the Jammu and border areas like Samba, Akhnoor, Rajouri, Poonch and RS Pura. The second part of the festival will later be held in Kashmir region in March this year.
Music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori, who has conceived the festival, while interacting with the media fraternity during a press conference said that “This year the prestigious SaMaPa festival, which is specially youth oriented, is expected to be witnessed by over 50,000 people especially the youth of the State.
Sopori informed that SaMaPa Aalap Festival is acclaimed as the premier music festival of J&K and one of the biggest festivals of the country.
The festival organized by SaMaPa is being presented in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Jammu, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Department of Information and Public Relations, J&K.
SaMaPa Aalap Festival (Jammu) will this year feature a galaxy of internationally acclaimed musicians including the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori (Santoor), Grammy Award Winner Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Mohan Veena), Padmashri Pt Satish Vyas (Santoor), Ustad Rafique Khan, Dr Suneera Kasliwal (Sitar) and a number of younger generation musicians who have excelled in their respective fields including Bharat Ratan Pt Bhimsen Joshi’s son Srinivas Joshi, Meeta Pandit (Vocal), Salil Bhatt (Satvik Veena), Daughter of Jammu and well known Sufi Singer Ragini Rainu, Aman Nath (Piano & Electronics) and others including upcoming musicians like Pritam Bhattacharjee, Nitin Sharma, Upama Roy Sharma (vocal) and others. Music maestro and son of the soil Abhay Rustum Sopori will also perform at various border areas like Akhnoor, RS Pura, etc.
This year a number of young talents from J&K will find their first major stage in the festival projecting the talent of the State. Various Dogri Folk presentations will also be seen as part of the festival in Jammu.
