RAJOURI, Sept 15: SOS International, an organization advocating for the displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), has urged political parties to clearly outline their plans to resolve the core issues of the PoJK community ahead of the Assembly elections.
Rajiv Chuni, the organization’s chairman, emphasized that the 6.5 lakh PoJK votes could be a decisive factor in 27-28 Assembly seats across the Union Territory, particularly in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
At a meeting in Rajouri’s Dhanwa village, Chuni stressed the organization’s commitment to addressing the community’s concerns, regardless of election cycles. He stated that political candidates must engage with the PoJK community and present actionable solutions for their long-standing issues.
Chuni highlighted three key constituencies-Kalakote-Sunderbani, Nowshera and Rajouri-where the PoJK community’s presence is expected to significantly influence the outcome. He criticized the political class for failing to improve the living conditions of the community, who have been displaced for over 70 years and continue to live in impoverished conditions.
The organization called on political parties to publicly apologize for past failures and make concrete promises for post-election efforts. Chuni stressed that the PoJK community will carefully assess party agendas before deciding whom to support.
The meeting also discussed leveraging social media to communicate decisions to the community and to ensure transparency and accountability.
Prominent among others who addressed the meeting were Susheel Sharma, Phuskar Nath Raina, Capt Ravinder Raina, Kewal Ram Sharma, Romesh Sharma, Mangat Ram, ex-Sarpanch Khem Raj, Dheeraj Sharma, Ved Raj Bali and Tarvinder Kumar.
