KATRA, Nov 17: State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K, in collaboration with Board of Cultural Activities Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, organised an awareness cum organ pledging program, here today.
On the occasion, more than 60 participants, including SMVDU Vice-Chancellor Prof R K Sinha pledged for Organ Donation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sinha said that to save lives, our thinking should be in such a way that after death, we have to save the lives of other. He filled the organ pledging form and motivated others also.
Dr Elias Sharma, HoD Urology, GMC Jammu and Nodal Officer SOTTO J&K, through his presentation made the students aware regarding deceased organ donation. ‘The solution to bridge the ever widening gap between organ availability and organ requirement in India is possible only through systematic strengthening of the deceased organ donation programme’ he added.
Dr Ashok Sharma, Dean Faculty Sciences, SMVDU Katra, said that organ donation is the need of hour.
Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Registrar SMVDU and faculty from various departments of university, graced the occasion. The event saw an overwhelming response from the students.
Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Sakshi Arora, Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engg and President Board of Cultural Activities, SMVDU Katra.
The highlight of the event was the QA session that saw a very high level of engagement and interaction by the participants.
