Srinagar, Sept 12: The District Water Testing laboratory in Ganderbal has undertaken a novel and impactful initiative to simplify the process of water testing for impurities, prioritizing the safety of residents’ lives.
In a bid to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water, the lab not only offers testing facilities but also distributes water testing kits under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Qurat ul Ain, a Chemist at the District Water Testing laboratory, highlighted the lab’s commitment to testing water quality from various sources and schemes, guaranteeing impurity-free drinking water for the people.
She emphasized the lab’s extensive workforce, including lab assistants, data entry operators, and specialists, all equipped with state-of-the-art equipment provided by the government.
“We have enough staff here, and the government has provided all the necessary equipment to facilitate the people. Field testing kits, in particular, have made a significant difference,” said Qurat ul Ain.
In the past, individuals had to personally submit water samples for testing, which proved to be time-consuming. Thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission, water testing kits are now provided to identified Paani Samitie (water committees), streamlining the entire process and making it more convenient for the residents.
In addition to providing testing services, the dedicated staff of the water testing lab has embarked on a door-to-door awareness campaign in the district. They educate residents on when and how to collect water samples for testing, empowering them to take charge of their water quality.
