Southern M&E industry to be over Rs 36K cr by FY16

CHENNAI, Oct 17: Media and Entertainment industry in south India is expected to garner business worth Rs 36,005 crore by 2015-16, constituting 36 per cent of the industry size nationwide, says a FICCI-Deloitte report.
The industry is pegged at Rs 21,190 crore this fiscal.
The report said that because of the evolving ecosystem and demand, the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 14 per cent for the next four years to reach Rs 36,005 crore by 2015-16.
The M&E market in Tamil Nadu is estimated at Rs 7,620 crore this fiscal, closely followed by Andhra Pradesh with Rs 6,480 crore and Karnataka and Kerala markets at Rs 3,985 and Rs 3,105 crore respectively.
By 2016, the Tamil Nadu market is expected to touch Rs 12,995 crore, Andhra Pradesh to reach Rs 11,200 crore, Karnataka Rs 6,715 crore and Kerala Rs 5,095 crore.
Television in the South Indian media and entertainment industry holds the majority share at Rs 12,220 crore, accounting for 58 per cent of the overall market.
The print industry is ranked second at Rs 6,265 crore, film industry at Rs 2,340 crore and Radio at Rs 365 crore, the report said.
However, the radio industry is expected to grow the fastest among other constituents at a CAGR of 22 per cent in the next four years, it added.
On the film industry in the South, the report said film revenues generated from Tamil Nadu is Rs 1,030 crore, closely followed by Andhra Pradesh at Rs 1,020 crore, Kerala and Karnataka at Rs 150 and Rs 140 crore, respectively.
In 2012, of total revenues in South India, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh had a share of 44 and 43 per cent, followed by Kerala and Karnataka at 7 per cent and 6 per cent. (PTI)
