SRINAGAR, Mar 29: Former Union Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today asked the Scheduled Tribes community members to remain vigilant from the land grabbers who have not even spared village common land (Gha Charai/ Khalsa Sarlar etc) and said that the ST members should raise dairies through Cooperative Societies for their economic growth and Government will render them help in this regard.
Addressing members of Chopan Welfare Society at Budgam today, Prof Soz said that the community must remain vigilant from the activities of land grabbers who in league with the lower level Revenue employees manage to grab village common land causing difficulties to STs. He said this practice should be discouraged as Ghas Charai land is shrinking in the State. He said constructions are being raised every where and greed for land grabbing is increasing among the people. It was matter of concern for the community.
The senior Congress leader also said that members of this community should remain steadfast on their demand of reservation for their community with the ST ambit. Prof Soz admitted that their demand was very genuine. He claimed that, he (Soz) has already taken up the issue with the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs. The Union Ministry has recommended the case to the Registrar General of Census, Government of India. He assured to render all support from his party for the demand.
He said State will be able to become self sufficient in meat production if the ST community takes resolves and works in this regard seriously.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Master Mohd Maqbool, Nazir Ahmed Khan and Shoiab Lone besides local leaders of Chopan community.
