Soz terms situation in South Kashmir areas as devastating, alarming

SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Member of Parliament (MP) and President, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz visited flood-ravaged villages in South Kashmir, today.
He was accompanied by Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Minister for Tourism, Mohammad Anwar Bhat, Vice President PCC, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, President DCC Anantnag, Anayatullah Rather, President DCC Kulgam, Hilal Ahmed Shah, organising secretary PCC, block presidents and others.
Prof Soz described the situation in these villages as devastating and alarming and said certain problems need urgent attention for provision of ration, restoration of electricity, restoration of vital communication, dewatering, restoration of temporary road links etc.
Prof Soz along with others visited Anantnag, Home-Shalibug, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag, Shangus and Bijbehara and the villages visited by them included Takya Behram Shah, Muniwar, Moonghal, Doonipawa, Janglat Mandi, Boat Colony, Rooh, Bumthan, Mir Bazar, Zoodara, Mantapora, Hillar, Achabal, Magreypora, Brakpora and Kangan Hall.
Prof Soz and Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir assured the people that their hardships would be mitigated and relief and rehabilitation would be organized on war-footing.
At several places Prof Soz explained to the people that the recent floods in Kashmir valley were unprecedented and people themselves were also responsible for this devastation as Jehlum had lost space for its flow due to vast level of encroachments on its banks.
He however, assured the people that long term measures would be taken to ensure safety for future.
