SP dies with suspected swine flu symptoms

JAMMU, Feb 19: A Superintendent of Police today died of respiratory disorder and doctors are awaiting his culture report to ascertain whether his death was due to swine flu.
“The patient was admitted in our hospital in a critical condition as he suffered from respiratory related disorder,” Dr SS Soodan, director ASCCMS&H Jammu said.
The deceased, Sunil Gupta was SP (administration) at the Zonal Police Head quarter, Jammu.
When asked if it was a case of swine flu, he said “nothing can be ruled out right now as the culture report of the deceased is still awaited.”
He said that before being shifted to ASCCMS&H Jammu Gupta was admitted at the police hospital, “The case history was just five days old and he died because of ARDS which is a respiratory related disorder. We can only confirm whether the death is related to swine flu only after we get the culture report of the patient.”
“Gupta died in the hospital today, doctors are yet to confirm the cause of the death,” sources said.
Meanwhile, authorities in the GMC Jammu have kept Chopra Nursing Home as reserved for patients with symptoms of H1N1.
Stock of Tamiflu tablets has been kept in all hospitals, sources said.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra has condoled the demise of Sunil Kumar Gupta, Superintendent of Police.
In his condolence message, the DGP has said that the sudden death of Sunil Gupta has shocked him, which is an irreparable loss to the entire Jammu and Kashmir Police force.
He has expressed his solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. He has described the deceased an epitome of kindness, who was a great professional and thorough gentleman.
Mr Rajendra along with senior police officers expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. They also remained present at the cremation.
Gupta served the J&K Police department in different capacities. He was promoted as SP (M) in June 2013 and posted at Zonal Police Headquarter (ZPHQ) Jammu. He died at Jammu this morning at the age of 49.
